Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was a child prodigy. A child of Irish roots, surrounded as she was by gifted parents and family members was naturally gifted, it came as a natural. Maureen was born in Ranelagh which was a suburb in Dublin in Ireland on the 17th of August 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons was an accomplished contralto. Charles FitzSimons was a successful businessman in Dublin who also controlled a portion of the Irish Shamrock Rovers, a soccer club in Ireland. Maureen FitzSimons is the 2nd child from Charles FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons, Florrie Fitzsimons Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons rounded out the wonderful family. Maureen was a natural athlete and loved playing sports. This interest was combined with a natural talent for performance. As evidenced by receiving nearly every Feis awards for drama and theatrical performing her country offered. At the age of 14, she was invited to the highly acclaimed Abbey Theater and pursued her dream of classical theater as well as operatic vocals.
